Position Summary: Troubleshoot, maintain, repair, replace, adjust and modify company vehicles, vans, pick-up trucks, tractors, trailers and various types of refrigeration, air conditioning and temperature control equipment, including structural metal repair and painting of tractors and trailers, as well as performing road service and preventative maintenance duties following standard accepted methods, practices and procedures in emergency and non-emergency situations and ensuring all safety and quality standards are met. May provide guidance to Mechanic, Fleet Helper. Communicates and interacts with co-workers professionally ensuring questions are answered
accurately and in a timely manner. Functions as a team member within the department and organization, as required, and perform any duty assigned to best serve the company.
Position Responsibilities may include, but not limited to: - Performs all preventive maintenance and mechanic work on all company trucks and trailers to minimize the effect on deliveries.
- Performs oil changes when necessary
- Lubricates chassis, trans, wheel hubs, rear axles, and 5th wheels
- Checks the batteries on tractor and trailers
- Checks and replaces belts as necessary
- Checks and replaces brake shoes as necessary
- Checks and replaces wheel bearings as necessary
- Checks and replaces clutches as necessary
- Checks for electrical problems
- Maintains anti-freeze as needed
- Replaces starters, alternators, and generators
- Performs additional duties as assigned
- Works always in a safe manner
- Perform general housekeeping duties in tractor, loading dock area and keep trailers clear and clean as required.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required QualificationsHigh School Diploma/GED or Equivalent
3 - 5 years of proven medium to heavy-duty vehicle repair including PM's, tire & wheel, air & air disc brakes, diagnosis, computerized diagnostics, electrical troubleshooting, electronic component repair and experience in refrigeration.
Preferred QualificationsAssociates/2-Year Technical
Vocational / Trade School Diploma
5 - 7 years of proven medium to heavy-duty vehicle repair including PM's, tire & wheel, air & air disc brakes, diagnosis, computerized diagnostics, electrical troubleshooting, electronic component repair and experience in refrigeration
Preferred certifications in tire & wheel, brakes, AC &/or EPA, DOT inspections, transmissions, engines, ASE Heavy Duty
