Position Summary:The Fixed Asset and Property Tax Manager is primarily responsible for ensuring the property tax cycle is completed timely and accurately including property tax return preparation and review, audit defense and appeals, tax bill review/processing, and property tax expense forecasting, along with maintaining the Federal, State and Foreign tax records for fixed assets and leases. This position requires a high level of organization, effective communication, and problem-solving skills. The ideal candidate will have experience in fixed asset management and property tax, with a strong proficiency in Microsoft Office programs, strong communication skills, and team management.
Position Responsibilities:- Manage property tax life-cycle process, including reviewing returns and bill payments and ensuring timely and accurate filing (some return preparation may be required)
- Proactively conduct property tax planning activities to minimize tax expense, including research, interpretation of laws, asset cost or value determination, and assist our Credits & Incentives team in obtaining available property tax incentives
- Monitor real property tax in PTMS
- Manage tax fixed asset records using BNA fixed asset software and PTMS property tax software, analyzing useful lives and coordination with Federal and State tax depreciation laws
- Review tax depreciation reports for property tax purposes
- Review property tax assessments for reasonableness, including working with outside consultants on appeals
- Review and true-up annual property tax budget at distribution center level
- Develop and maintain department specific process improvement action plans
- Work with external advisors to identify and optimize PTMS
- Implement integration plan to centralize all companies' assets and property tax filings into department
- Manage state and local audits with information gathering, data analysis, and implementation of system changes with respect to audit findings
- Work with the Credits & Incentives team to initiate and retain incentives and tracking abatements and special Ad Valorem tax regimes regarding both real and personal property valuation and taxation matters to ensure all savings are being achieved
- Interact with other members of the Finance department and accounting personnel at the operating facilities
- Direct and supervise daily activities of a direct report
- Performs other related duties as assigned
Required Qualifications• Bachelor's degree
• 6-8 years' experience with fixed asset accounting and property tax
• Experience with CSC PTMS, property tax management software
• Strong ability to prioritize and handle multiple projects in a changing environment
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, both verbal and written
• Depending on location, some travel may be required to Richmond, VA
Preferred Qualifications• Experience with Bloomberg BNA, fixed asset management software
